Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike...Guess What Day It Is?

Last week I was going through some of my scans, naming and tagging them when I came across this interesting anomaly. I thought it was weird in 2011 when the Cubs had three players named Carlos (Pena, Marmol & Zambrano). But apparently, for the 1982 Topps set, the Cubs had five players named Mike!

The five of them didn't all play together but the first four, Griffin, Krukow, Lum and Tyson did and were all part of the 1981 team, thus getting a card in the 1982 base set. Proly signed as a free agent early in the 1982 season and snuck into the Traded set in an airbrushed Cubs uniform. By that time, Griffin had been traded to Montreal, Krukow to the Phillies, and Lum and Tyson had been released.

And of course, when I saw all of these Mikes together, I thought of the commercial below, hence the post title. And yes, I've been sitting on this post for several days, just waiting for Hump Day!

Sorry if it gets stuck in your head! (Kind of...)

  2. I always got a kick out the plethora of players named Moe that appeared on cards in the early 1960s - Thacker, Drabowsky and Morhardt...
