What a weekend...

So I was one of the millions affected by this past weekend's power outages in the greater Washington DC area. When we bought our house just over two years ago, one of the first things we did was have several trees trimmed back and/or removed completely. This investment paid off huge this weekend as several trees went down around the neighborhood, crushing neighbors' cars and houses. Luckily, no injuries from around the neighborhood and no personal property damage to report.

Having had the power outage just a few weekends ago left us better prepared than most although it was still incredibly hot. And unlike last time, I didn't have my work internet to fall back on for posting my blog updates. Power out there too. I was in the middle of writing up my Signature Saturday post when we lost power on Friday night. Rather than double up posts, I'll just save it for next weekend. I'm a little disappointed because I hadn't missed a day of posting since I started this blog back in April. But, I also count my blessings that my biggest loss from the weekend was 2 blog posts. I might have to come up with a few to keep on the back burner.

Not much else to update as I didn't have a whole lot of free time this weekend. When the power came back on Sunday evening, I did notice that the Cubs swept the Astros (nice!) and they also managed two All-Star selections while maintaining the worst record in baseball. Congrats to Starlin Castro and Bryan Lahair! Hopefully they can keep this latest run of winning 5 of 6 going into the All-Star break and into the second half.

I did update the Tony Campana PC page right before the weekend with a couple of red bordered Target editions from last year's Update set as well as this year's Series 2. I also figured out which Campanas I still need and added them to my Want List. In case you missed them, here are the latest additions:

Tony Campana 2011 Topps Update Target Red Border

Tony Campana 2012 Topps Series 2 Target Red Border
Last year's card doesn't looks that great because of the huge red Budweiser ad behind Tony. Contrast not real good.  But I think the red does really pop against the mostly ivy background on this year's edition.

  1. It's crazy that there are so many people still without power. Down here in Richmond we lost power Friday night and it came back on Saturday morning. I had just reset all the clocks in the house and heard the first rumble of thunder Saturday evening. Luckily, we only lost power for about 30 seconds (just enough to make the clocks blink 12:00, 12:00, 12:00, again!)

    1. I live in a cul de sac where most of the neighborhood was fine after 1PM on Saturday. But when they flipped the switch, a tree branch caught fire so it was shut back off for another 24 hours for the 10 or so houses at the dead end, including mine. We had about 30 minutes of power total from around 10PM Friday night until early Sunday evening.

  2. I agree about the red border but I think last year's photo is tons better then this year's. To paraphrase Randy Newman, "Big hat, no cattle, Big head, no brain, Big Glove, no ball."

    1. Background aside, because obviously the ivy trumps any other outfield backdrop, I agree.

Would have been nice to see a baserunning photo, similar to Darwin Barney's laid out SB attempt because aside from the glove color and cropping, it's basically the same pose.

  3. Interesting two pics there. What jumped at me were the gloves. Note how new that brown glove is in the 2011 update card. One would think he would still be using that same glove, but he's now in a black glove that seems a little more used. Wonder if he really broke in a new glove or went back to an older glove. I doubt it's the same glove dyed, but anything is possible.
